In reality, the training really never ended. It took a bit of a break in 2014 when I was faced with a few medical challenges, but kept working with my coach (yes, I have a coach) throughout recovery so that I could get back on track as soon as I was able. My interesting 2014 included recovery from bilateral hip surgeries for torn labrums, and getting diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. (Yep, that sucks. Big time.) I’m guessing not too many people can say they’ve had a hip MRI and a brain MRI in the same week. Indeed it was a rough time, but I was able to keep rolling and now, while still facing a few residual challenges, I’m back with a full 2016 race calendar.
Jan 3: Life Time Fitness Indoor Tri. I didn’t write a race report, but I finished 3rd overall in the women’s masters (40+) category.
Feb 7: Super Half Marathon, Colorado Springs
March 12: 5k on St. Patrick’s Day, Colorado Springs
April 17 (tentative): Life Time Fitness Indoor Tri, Colorado Springs
June 4: Colorado Triathlon (Olympic), Boulder
June 19: Syracuse 70.3 The last 70.3 I did was in 2013…
June 25-26: Colorado Bike MS (please support me, or even join my team!)
July 10: Boulder Peak Tri, Boulder. A classic.
July 29-30: Headwaters Relay with Girls Heart Rockets, Montana
Sept 3-4: TriFest for MS TriFesta (3 races), Bentonville, AR
Interspersed between my events will be some travel to help support my athletes at their events, and some camps. It’s going to be a busy year, but I’m completely dedicated to helping all my athletes train and race their best. I feel that by continuing to race, I keep on top of the subtleties that will help my athletes be even more successful. And I can give MS the proverbial finger for as long as my body will allow (hopefully a long time to come!)
I plan to share not only my personal training and racing experiences, but also to delve into more sport science and other interesting training and racing topics this year.
Here’s to 2016!
