2019 Year In Review

2019 was an eventful year, as most years are. I tend to go with the flow and not realize how much I have accomplished until I look back. It’s always worth a review to reflect and learn. (That’s why I’m a big proponent of race reports!)

My priorities, and hence my goals, revolve around health and personal growth. Athletic pursuits keep me challenged. My professional and intellectual goals challenge me as well.

In 2019 I took a break from a full triathlon season and focused more on local trail running events in addition to three 100 mile+ charity bike rides.

2019 started with a 10k run in 3F temperatures (-16C)… crazy cold! I had a solid spring and early summer with my running races and enjoyed getting out on the trails. I even took a Master’s Division win at the Take 5 in the Garden 5 mile race! My performance was hampered a bit in the summer with resurgence of anemia, so I addressed that this fall and it was the reason for the recent surgery.

2019 Event Schedule

Rescue Run 10k ← 3rd place AG in 3 degree temperatures!

Super Half Marathon

5k on St. Patrick’s Day

Rattler 25k ← what a muddy mess!

Take 5 in the Garden (5 mile) ← Master’s female overall win!

High Drive Challenge (10 mile)

America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride with Team Survivor

Deferred Leadville Heavy Half marathon to 2020 (!!!)

Bike MS Colorado

Classic 10k

Pikes Peak Ultra 30k

Bike MS Wyoming

USATri 60 Indoor Tri ← final race of 2019

My professional life.

At the end of July, I left my job with the National MS Society to go back to school for a Master’s Degree in Health Promotion. It’s pointing me in an exciting direction regarding active transportation and how I can make our communities healthier.

My coaching business is still a consistent part of my professional life. In September I attended the TrainingPeaks Endurance Coaching Summit, which had some fascinating presentations and I got to meet coaches from around the world. I’m still available for consultations, custom training plans, coaching packages, and lactate threshold tests here in Colorado Springs.

Team NEO Bike MS

2019 was the 5th year of leading a team for the Colorado Bike MS. We were once again a top 10 fundraising team, raising over $63,800 for the National MS Society. The people on the team are amazing. 1 million people in the US live with multiple sclerosis, so we’re committed to help support them and the search for a cure. Join us!

Family time.

I don’t write a lot about them, but I got to enjoy time with family. My brother and parents are nearby so I see them somewhat regularly. I have to visit my sister virtually, as she is over in the UK. In the break between school and work, my boyfriend and I visited family in California. We also went to North Carolina to see the grandbaby turn 1!

Another exciting venture is in store at the start of 2020. We’ve built an apartment above a garage that will very soon be available to rent on AirBnB. OK, so a contractor built it and my boyfriend did the interior finishing. We’re in the final stages of furnishing and decorating it this week. So if you or someone you know needs a short term rental in downtown Colorado Springs, it’s a great one! More on that when the listing is available.

What have I learned?

2019 has taught me to keep my well-being in the forefront. And not just physical well-being. Emotional, spiritual, environmental, professional, and intellectual wellness are all important. I can’t focus on them all at the same time, but awareness and intention goes a long way. Relationships matter.  Spend time with great people. Think big and take small steps to make the world around you a better place.

I’ll share my 2020 thoughts in my next post. In the meantime, here are a few photos from 2019. Have a safe and happy 2020!

  1. Four years ago, I went numb from the waist down. After quite a few MRI’s, spinal tap, I was diagonsed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was on Avenox for almost 2 years, i had 1 year of monthly steroids IV, had to stop due to hip pain. Through my physiotherapist i learnt about a MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS HERBAL TREATMENT from R.H.G. (Rich Herbal Gardens) and their success rate with the treatment, i immediately started on the MS treatment, i experienced decline in major symptoms including hand tremor, back pain, difficulty walking, muscle paralysis and weakness, uncomfortable tingling and burning, fatigue, urinary retention, double vision, slurred speech difficulty swallowing, numbness. Visit ww w. richherbalgardens.c om. I knew that a positive attitude is everything and to just believe, I’m in control of my life again….
