At the beginning of January, I posted about by 2012 goals. Included were some of my own personal race goals, which included a mountain bike race – the Beti Bike Bash. That was going to be my introduction to mountain bike racing. Well, it looks like I will be doing a bit more mountain bike racing in 2012, as I have been selected to the WMBA of COS 2012 club team. I will be doing at least three races. This is definitely going to take me out of my comfort zone. I’ll just say that I like the “stability” of road riding and have a bit of confidence to gain on the trails. But the one way for me to improve is to jump into the deep end! And the ladies of WMBA will provide a superb support structure as I learn new skills.
So once I’m done with the LA Marathon, you’ll find me on the trails…. a lot! I’d like to note – I don’t have a fancy mountain bike. In fact, it’s just an entry level hardtail (Novara Bonanza) I got in 2004 at REI. I’ll clean it up and get a proper fit, but we’re going basic here to see what we can do. Be sure to come back and check in on my progress!
Are you doing anything this year to take you out of your comfort zone?
Do you have a support system for your foray into the unknown?
