Age Group Nationals – It’s Race Week!

Coach Nicole almost at the finish line of the 2018 Boulder Peak Triathlon

So much has gone on since my last post months ago! I was hoping to blog more but the season hasn’t quite panned out like I had hoped, and I have quite a bit still on my plate.

I’ll skip the busy spring and summer events and fast forward to now… it’s RACE WEEK!!! Later this week I will be traveling to Cleveland, Ohio to participate in the 2018 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships!

This season was supposed to be the one where I get super fit for this particular race. Unfortunately I had some significant training setbacks with anemia and low iron. Volume and intensity had to be reduced.

I still had a season. I raced the Colorado Tri Olympic and Boulder Peak Triathlon in June and July, so I’ve got races under my belt. I’ve also been in open water somewhat regularly since the end of May, so I’m good to go there, too. (Thanks SUP Colorado Springs for setting up swims at Prospect Lake!)

Being honest, it’s been frustrating looking at past performances and knowing I am nowhere close to where I’ve been or where I could be. But as with every problem, if we figure out the root cause, we then understand what is going on and can make a plan to fix the problem and keep moving forward.

Saturday I will race with what I have that day, racing for all those living with multiple sclerosis. It was an honor to qualify at the 2017 Trifest for MS, and I look forward to sharing the course with everyone on Saturday in Cleveland.
